Teen acting sensation Selena Gomez hates her "wholesome" image.

Teen star Selena Gomez said she hates her 'wholesome' image and is still trying to figure out who she is.

The 18-year-old Disney star admitted at the Teen Choice Awards that she never tried to come across to audiences as innocent.

She said to HollywoodLife.com: 'The funny thing is, I really don't like it when people say I'm wholesome. I don't like that at all! I never said I was that and I never tried to portray it.'

'I'm honestly doing what I feel like I'm doing... and I'd just like to figure out who I am.'

Gomez, who is best known for roles in shows such as Wizards of Waverly Place and Ramona and Beezus, also revealed the actresses she most admires.

She said: 'I look up to people my family loves. [My inspirations] are Rachel McAdams and Sandra Bullock. They're very strong women in the acting world and really real people and I love them.'

Selena Gomez dishes out dating advice

Selena Gomez may claim she had not had a date in six months, but that isn't stopping the Disney Channel star from dishing out advice. In an interview with BettyConfidential, Selena (who was at one point linked to Nick Jonas of the Jonas Brothers) shares what she thinks is the perfect philosophy for finding a relationship:

"Any crush or relationship is always a big ordeal. To get that one boy to like you and then he doesn't feels like the end of the world.

"I figure that you will have about 1,000 dates until you get to your perfect guy."

Selena also stated that she does not feel the need to have a boyfriend at the moment -- even if some of her other fellow Disney stars such as Miley Cyrus are constantly talked about due to their romantic interests.

Do you think Gomez is sharing some good advice?

Selena Gomez doesn't need a man to feel complete

Teen star Selena Gomez has revealed that she hasn’t had a date in over six months, but that she doesn't need a boyfriend “right now”.

In an interview with US website BettyConfidential, the teen queen gave fans advice on dating and relationships.

She told the website: “Any crush or relationship is always a big ordeal. To get that one boy to like you and then he doesn’t feels like the end of the world. I figure that you will have about 1,000 dates until you get to your perfect guy”.

Following her break-up with US pop star, Nick Jonas, she said it’s made her realise that “what happens in-between will be filled with challenge and tears”.

She added: 'Unfortunately, I haven't been on a date in over six months. In hindsight, it doesn't really seem that long between dates.

“The truth is I haven't met anyone, but I'm young. I don't need to have a boyfriend right now.'

The Wizards Of Waverly Place star is busy promoting her new teen movie, Monte Carlo, plus a new fashion line, which went on sale at the beginning of the month in Kmart stores in the US.

Selena Gomez: Critics were hard on me!

If you thought it was easy for Disney stars like Selena Gomez to pick up their own show and land a record deal, you were wrong.

According to Gomez, critics had a hard time accepting her as a serious actor. Though she got her start at age seven on "Barney & Friends" and occasionally guest starred on other Disney shows like "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody" and "Hannah Montana," she claims no one took her seriously and doubted that she would get anywhere.

"I’ve had people tell me that I would never have my own show," she told The New York Daily News, "that I wasn't talented or strong enough, and I've had a bunch of people criticize my music and my personal style and everything."

Today, Gomez is on her way to wrapping up her own Emmy Award-winning show, "Wizards of Waverly Place," and just starred in a movie, "Ramona and Beezus," which soaked up generally positive reviews from even the top movie critics.

Roger Ebert called Gomez's performance in "Ramona and Beezus" "appealing," while calling the movie a "featherweight G-rated comedy of no consequence."

"Being business-minded so young is more about being passionate with the things that you love," she explains.

Critics might be eating their words now that Gomez has made it big, but were they right in the first place, or did Gomez just get lucky?

Selena Gomez's New Album Features Katy Perry Collaboration

Selena Gomez's New Album Features Katy Perry Collaboration - 'California Gurls' singer wrote and sang backup on new track.

Selena Gomez is getting a bit of help from a fellow pop star for her next album, tentatively titled A Year Without Rain. The "Ramona and Beezus" star recently shared that her September release will feature a collaboration with one of California's most famous gurls.

"Katy Perry gave me a song, and she did background vocals on it," she told Hollywood Life. "The whole experience was really fun."

Other details concerning the song with Perry are unknown, but Gomez has said that this next album will focus on her growing up musically. "The title so far of my album — I mean, I'm hoping it will stick — is A Year Without Rain," Gomez told MTV News. "It's basically one of my favorite songs on the record. It's kind of got a more feel-good dance beat and feel. I love it. It's different; [it] kind of shows my growth of my music."

Gomez has other favorite tunes on the album. "There's a song called 'Intuition' that's one of my favorites. The message is basically every decision that you regret or second-guess, [just] do it [anyway]. I love that message so much."

Not only does she have songs banked for the album, the visuals for it are also in the works. "Shot my album artwork for the next record today!" she tweeted a few weeks ago. "Ah, I can't wait for yall to see/hear all the new stuff!"
