'Glee' Cast Muses Over An All-Michael Jackson Episode

The good folks at “Glee” have already given us doses of pop icons Madonna and Lady Gaga, and Britney Spears is up next in season 2. So, many would argue it’s only fair that the following episode dedication go to the man who invented pop in the first place. You heard me: the next big name in music to get the “Glee” treatment could be … Michael Jackson.

Glee's Post Super Bowl Ep to be a Tribute to a Major Pop Artist!

Carol Burnett will play Sue Sylvester's mother in an episode of "Glee" this fall, reports Michael Ausiello of Entertainment Weekly. Imagine Burnett tugging on her ear and singing "I'm So Glad We Had This Time Together" while wearing a track suit. The mind reels with the possibility.

It's yet another smart bit of high-caliber star casting for the Fox musical, and one that was hinted at a few weeks ago at Comic-Con. During a press conference prior to the "Glee" panel, a reporter asked each of the cast and crew members present who they would like to see make a guest appearance. Someone -- I believe it was creator/executive producer Ryan Murphy -- definitely mentioned Burnett. Those "Glee" people are so clever at making their ideas seem completely spontaneous.

At Comic-Con and during the TCA press tour, Murphy and co. also noted that the big post-Super Bowl episode of "Glee" will feature a tribute to a major pop artist, but they did not say who because negotiations are ongoing. Now that we know the Burnett news is a done deal, I say it's time to speculate as to who that pop artist might be, at least in our fantasies. Some names we can rule out: Britney Spears, since a Britney episode has already been confirmed for another episode next season; Madonna (even though they plan to do another tribute, presumably it won't be for the Super Bowl); Paul McCartney, who already will have his music featured in another episode next season; and Lady Gaga (also been done). So who could it be? Let's take some guesses.

Beyoncé: As the "Single Ladies" homages have proven, "Glee" loves Sasha Fierce. And she certainly qualifies as a major pop star. Also worth noting: while Ms. Knowles has performed the national anthem at a Super Bowl, she has yet to headline a halftime show. And I have to think that whoever winds up singing during the big game break may be the same person who gets top-tribute billing on "Glee."

Janet Jackson: Remember what I just said about the person who sings at halftime definitely being the subject of the "Glee" tribute show? Here's one scenario where that wouldn't be the case. But Jackson would make a pretty delicious choice, given her breast-baring role in the most controversial Super Bowl performance of all time, not to mention her status as pop royalty. In its own, show-tuney way, "Glee" is a show that relishes the opportunity to stick its out-and-proud thumb in the eye of authority. And what better way to do that than by putting Miss Jackson front and center? Added bonus: the entire cast could dress in military-style garb and do a "Rhythm Nation." Even better: Kurt could do a cover of "Nasty."

Prince: The idea of a Prince episode has been floated and approved in the "Gleek"-osphere. There's no question the guy certainly has an amazing catalogue of music to choose from, one that, in my humble opinion, might make "The Power of Madonna" seem slightly less powerful by comparison. But it's unclear whether he's want to do something like this. And the fact that he did the Super Bowl halftime show a few years ago makes this seem less likely.

Jennifer Lopez: If J. Lo is confirmed as an "American Idol" judge, consider this possibility all the more likely. The Super Bowl episode will air Feb. 6, 2011, most likely a few weeks after "Idol's" new season begins. Putting her on "Glee" is a cross-marketing opportunity Fox -- not to mention Lopez -- probably would not want to pass up.

Mariah Carey: The best thing about a Carey tribute is the potential for a hit-the-high-note contest between Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, frequent guest star Kristen Chenoweth, and Carey. Some people will be putting money on the big game that Sunday; if this circumstance comes to pass, the "Gleeks" would all be betting on which of these vocalists is most likely to break glass.

Out of these possibilities, which one sounds most appealing?

Lea Michele almost got into a big car crash!

While making her way to The Hollywood Reporter's Emmy Roundtable, Glee actress Lea Michele nearly was involved in a pretty serious accident that involved several cars Sunday afternoon.

While stopped at the intersection, a car ran a red light and collided with a truck, causing the truck to flip over multiple times before eventually stopping feet from Michele's vehicle. She immediately exited the car and stepped safely to the side of the road and made her way to the Chateau Marmont. Check out pics of her below from Fox's TCA party last night!

Mindy Kaling of The Office was also tied up in traffic that developed as a result of the accident while making her way to the roundtable.

Police didn't release any more details.

Ryan Murphy confirms "Glee" lesbian kiss

Most of the cast of Glee was at the Beverly Hilton Hotel last night for the annual TCA Awards (minus Jane Lynch who was out with laryngitis). And it's a good thing they were — they were the big winners of the evening. The Fox show scooped up "Program of the Year," "Outstanding New Program" and "Individual Achievement in Comedy" for Lynch's portrayal of cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester.



She didn't expand further on this, so I will give some of you some everlasting hope that this is true. But what about the episode that could include the BFFs kissing on screen?

"I don't know," Naya said. "We never know until we get the scripts and I kind of like it that way!"

She seemed very psyched to have lesbian fans that are pulling for her and Brittany. I also asked if she knew of any romantic interests she would be having this year — aka "Don't even tell me they are trying to pull you away from the only lesbian thing we have on this show." Naya had no idea. Ryan Murphy literally leaves them in the dark.

Glee to recreate Britney video, cover Stronger, Schue is pressed.

It's finally happening...the unstoppable forces that are GLEE and Britney Spears are joining together in the most epic and undoubtedly the most watched episode of all time...of course, that is until they do another ICON episode.



But really, this teaming makes perfect sense. Britney was the reigning princess of pop for quite the number of years and has a nice collection of hits under her belt (despite some truly awful anti- female titles-"Born to make you happy" anyone?) and Glee will sing and dance nicely to them. I jest, I'm sure the Glee-ification of Brit's songs will be amazing and flashy and pow and all but from what the cast say about the episode-it sounds like it will just be a re-hash of the Madonna episode.

Lea Michele almost gives the whole episode away with these little nuggets of wisdom;

"It's gonna be a really big episode...I've always loved Britney Spears, and I get to do something REALLY cool."

"What I loved about the episode is there's old songs, there's new songs, and Ryan (Murphy) also does what was really cool in the Madonna episode, how he took a song and had the boys sing it. He does the same thing with Britney and I can't wait to hear it because the idea sounds so cool."

"I am singing a classic Britney Spears song that I'm so excited about. I am recreating a Britney video, but I can't say what it is yet."

Prediction time! I'm seeing an emotional "I'm not a girl, Not yet a woman" performance in Michele's not-to-distance future and an all-singing-all-dancing version of "Baby one more time" in the school gym!

According to Matthew Morrison, Mr Schuster will be anti-Britney;

"I like Britney. I got in trouble earlier for comments I made saying I'm anti-Britney, but I'm not. I think in this episode they're going to mirror those comments and I'm going to be very anti-Britney in the episode because I don't like what she represents...It's gonna be a lot of fun and some crazy stuff is gonna happen."

Crazy indeed. The cast also confirmed that Britney will not be appearing on the show (Boo!) and one song of hers has definitely been confirmed - "Stronger". Will the Glee club attempt that chair spinning dance from the "Stronger" video? For the sakes of their limbs-I hope not.
